To Stanley, or Not to Stanley

To Stanley, or Not to Stanley

At first, when the Stanley Quencher Tumbler hype started, I was real judgemental. “Really?” I thought to myself rolling my eyes, “is it really THAT good? Or, is this just another fad?” Well, let me tell you, the hype is real.

Pre-Stanley, I used a Yeti tumbler and thought it was the ish. It kept my drink cold and didn’t sweat, so I was good to go. Then Target (darn you Target!) released their Stanley line. The instant I saw the pink and white (parfait ombre) one, I was smitten. Of course my local Target here in Hawaii was sold out (or maybe it never arrived?), but when we took a trip to CA last month and I saw it there on the shelf, I grabbed it before I could even think!

Why do I love it?

It’s cute, obviously. Enough said.

It fits in the cup holder. We’ve all had the cute cup that doesn’t fit in the cup holder. Not so cute anymore, right?

It’s cold. I mean, really cold. As I write this, I still have ice in it from last night. Some people are ok with room temp water, but I like my water ice cold. Yeah, it hurts my teeth sometimes, but it’s worth it. You may not know this about me, but I regularly have heart palpitations (premature ventricular contractions, known as PVCs) and also have a long history of anxiety. One of my favorite “treatments” for both of those? Ice water. Drinking cold water can actually decrease  heart rate which helps for both palpitations and anxiety. When I’m feeling panicky, often times due to the palpitations, I drink a sip of ice water and actively focus on the feeling of it going down my esophagus and into my stomach. Taking my mind off of the panic and onto something specific helps me not go into full panic attack. Woah, went real nurse-y on you for a minute there.

It’s durable. Trust me. On our way back from CA, I stuck my new bestie (the Stanley Quencher) in the side pocket of my backpack. You know, the open water bottle type side pocket. We were heading down the escalator after landing here in Hawaii, on our way to baggage claim. I leaned forward for who knows what reason now, likely something kid related, and out popped my tumbler. I watched it in slow motion as it tumbled down the entire flight of escalator steps. Luckily, there was nobody on the escalator in front of us, otherwise I might have had a bigger problem on my hands had I caused an injury. Anyway, as I watched it tumbling, I couldn’t help but give myself a metaphorical kick in the butt. How could I drop my BRAND NEW Stanley Quencher??? I assumed it would be dented and scraped and the handle and lid would be cracked. I questioned whether I would even be able to use it anymore due to the damages. I get to the bottom of the escalator to retrieve it…only one little teeny tiny scrape in the paint. No dents, no cracks, no nada. And remember, these are escalator steps we’re talking about. Not stairs steps. Escalator steps. Hard metal, pointy edges. And when I say it tumbled down the escalator, it TUMBLED. Like full on bouncing and flipping as it hit each step. And all my tumbler walked away with was a tiny scratch.

It encourages me to drink water. This is by far the quality I love best. I am not someone that naturally drinks water. If I don’t make a concentrated effort, I’ll have my chai in the morning, and then not drink anything until dinner when I pop open a coke. So, having the Stanley Quencher nearby during the day encourages me to drink at least 40 oz of water. And you might be thinking, “well obviously you’re going to drink more water if you have water more available nearby,” but even when I had my Yeti tumbler next to me, I rarely drank it. I’m not sure if it’s the straw, or the handle, or somethng else entirely, but something about it makes me drink more water so I’m going with it!

There are so many other features, but those are my faves.

Tell me, have you jumped on the bandwagon yet?
